"Use It or Lose It" by Motley Crue |
] |
Lit Up/Let Down [otherwise known as Vicky's LJ] is currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
I am aware that my current layout is best viewed at 1024x768 and generally does not display correctly in Firefox and Google Chrome. Sorry. I'm old-school and normally use either Opera or IE. So you can either use Opera or IE too, or disregard the layout entirely and click either the post title or one of the little links that say "Comin' In" or "Traps." It's a disguised comment link, not a booby trap, people. Clicking it takes you to the post in plain text format. This also eliminates the 'problem' of my small Flyers-orange text (which I just so happen to like, thank you very much).
Also, those ads you see that squish the post into a really tiny space? Sign up for a free basic LiveJournal account and they vanish. Hint, hint.
You should also expect a lot less in the way of visible posts (to visitors, at least). This will still function as my personal journal. However, those posts will be locked. If you're a friend of mine (and a LiveJournal user) but you see nothing but the public posts, you have three options: comment here, send me an e-mail, or give me a call. I'll add you to my friends list so you can see what's going on in my life.
All those sports posts that have been mixed in with everything else? I'm filtering them out. Slowly. I'll leave those open to the public once I've separated them.
Speaking of the sports-related posts... They seem to be drawing traffic. That's nice and all, but please remember:
I'm by no means an objective source of information. Everything I write here is heavily biased. It's actually all for the sake of recording my thoughts throughout the season and keeping a few of my friends up-to-date.
I'm not always completely accurate. I screw things up. A lot. If you catch an error, comment on the post and correct me. I'm only human, y'know?
The icons and graphics I make and occasionally post here? They're mine. I credit the people who took the original photographs or point you in the direction of the place I found the image. Please extend the same courtesy. Feel free to take one of my icons to use somewhere else (though I don't know why you'd want to), but please mention that I created it. Thanks.
And the last thing... Everything I write here? Mine, like the icons. Please don't claim it as your own. I don't mind if you re-post pieces of it somewhere else for your friends to read (again, I don't know why you'd want to). But if you do want to re-post something I've written, there are two conditions. One - you need to tell me first. Two - link back to me, or at least credit me as the original poster. Thanks.
That's all. If you actually took the time to read this, thank you again.
- Vicky
P.S. Although I'm still adjusting to finding unsigned comments (or any comments at all aside from those my friends leave), I do read them all and I try to respond to each one. If you've dropped me a line, feel free to come back and check later in the day to see my response.

Day 10 → A photo of you taken over ten years ago
As Hanna put it, there are none in cyber-existence. So... There'll be a lag on this one while I go hunting. I could go steal one of the photos from the shelf in the living room, but I don't think any of those are over a decade old. And I don't feel like hunting through dust bunnies to find the crate of older photos. So... I'm gonna take my camera-phone, hit the spare room and see what I come up with.
( Result of my search. )

Day 09 → A photo you took
Hmm... I could go back to the Philly trip from senior year, but I think I have all of them linked already. XD So here, have what I dug up in my photobucket and on twitpic.
Brent when he was still a kitten. Flowers in the back yard... Cheyenne in the truck. My drive home from Bob's... (at least before it got dark at freaking 4:30) The companion to that, because I love them both. XD
( The rest of the meme, for reference. )
Totally random: Kat, about that KISS concert... Screw Facebook, I found it on Twitter! ...Paul really needs to chill out before he has an aneurysm or something. And I was not impressed with Thayer or with the new songs. But it was entertaining, as one would expect from a KISS show. I definitely liked the pyro. :D
Also, Paul's comments on the Anaheim/San Jose rivalry made me laugh like an idiot because I spent the three hours immediately before the concert watching the Ducks narrowly beat the Hurricanes and the Sharks get flattened by the Blackhawks.

Day 04 → Your favourite book
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. I adore the whole series, but Lonesome Dove is the best by far.
I have a deep-rooted love of several other authors' work (Clive Cussler, Nelson DeMille, Stephen Coonts, Dale Brown, Ward Carroll, Martin Cruz Smith, Glenn Meade... If I don't stop now I'll keep going forever...), but Lonesome Dove stands out. I haven't read it as many times as I have Sahara (Cussler) or Snow Wolf (Meade), but it doesn't matter because everything McMurtry wrote is so firmly entrenched in my memory.
Seriously, if you haven't read it yet, go find a copy. (No, you may not borrow mine; it's in terrible shape and I've resorted to overprotecting it until I can find and buy a new copy.) Even if you don't like westerns, give it a chance.
( The rest of the meme, for reference. )
P.S. Why am I still awake? I've been up nearly 21 hours. There's not even any caffeine involved. SLEEP NOW, SELF.

"Carry Me Home" by Timo Räisänen |
] |
Yeah, I'm game. I can do this. Even if work ate my life, I can manage one little answer a day... If I miss a day, hit me.
Day 01 → Your favourite song
This changes almost hourly. The constant is Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone," but Motley Crue's "On With the Show" is also on the list pretty much all the time. So are Poison's "Let Me Go to the Show" (formerly the story of my life) and Dwight Yoakam's "A Thousand Miles from Nowhere."
Van Halen's "Dance the Night Away," Bruce Springsteen's "Jungleland," Outlaws' "Green Grass and High Tides," and The Hooters' "And We Danced" always make me stop and listen.
Brooks & Dunn's "South of Santa Fe" and Todd Rundgren's "Bang on the Drum" have a lot of memories attached to them, to say the least.
I've recently had Skagarack's "Hungry for a Game" and Sergey Lazarev's "Stereo" playing a lot.
I'm hooked on Pearl Jam's newest single, "The Fixer," too.
And this song ("Carry Me Home" by Timo Räisänen) won't get the hell out of my head.
...Thorough enough answer for you?

The Marlins spoiled it and handed the Braves a loss 30 seconds before the Phillies won... But they did it.
For the third year in a row, the Philadelphia Phillies take the NL East.

"Kinda Crazy" by Vlad Topalov |

I really hate this freaking job sometimes. I love probably 80% of the people I work with. But the 20% I have a hard time with? They're in charge. And they make the schedule. And fuck up my week. EVERY WEEK.
Monday was a two-time thing. I worked the holiday because they were 'understaffed,' then I worked last week because I was stupid and called to ask about the schedule and was told, "Nope, not on it, but we could use you... Can you come in tonight?"
That doesn't mean you change my schedule at will because you think I should be in. That doesn't mean you get to order one of my co-workers to leave me bitchy voicemails, or drag her into shouting matches over my schedule.
That's not fair to her, and it's not fair to me. I had plans for today, and you just botched them, making me an hour late because I had to stay here and argue with you. I also had plans for tomorrow, but because I CAN NOT under ANY circumstances lose this job, I need to 'make up' a day. Tomorrow.
Fuckin' figures.

Freaking miracle-worker.
Bob snagged tickets to the Flyers home opener.
And his way of telling me? A text message: "I no somethin i wont tell! 10.6 is ur hint"
asdfghjkl;
I don't even know how to react. Need Mike Richards icon. (...Where is gigantic jersey? For that matter, where is ridiculously-overpriced-Winter-Classic shirt?)
Pardon me while I go crazy. Quietly, so as to not wake Nat in the next room.

It must suck to be a true Mets fan right now.
They're ravaged by injuries and wallowing in mediocrity (boy, do I know that feeling -- sounds like my beloved Phillies not so long ago). And it's only getting worse for them.
Mets ace Santana scratched from next start.
[[EDIT:]] Johan has bone chips in his elbow. Season-ending surgery to repair the damage for next year.
Sorry, Mets.
Rivalries are only fun when both teams are actually competitive.

Triple-A is either car insurance or a minor league baseball level. A triple-play is the historically rare play that Eric Bruntlett managed yesterday.
If you intend to be a baseball broadcaster, especially in Philadelphia, please learn the difference. Also, please recall you're on live television and people across the tri-state area are listening to you.
Thank you.

Eric Bruntlett turned an unassisted triple play to end the game against the Mets a couple hours ago (what, I was driving around! I can't LJ and drive, folks).
That hasn't happened for the Phillies since Mickey Morandini did it in the 90s. I swear I heard Harry's "CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!" when Bruntlett managed it.
The answer, Harry, is no. We can not. But we are grateful all the same.
No one would have thought our back of the bench utility infielder would go three-for-five at the plate (should have been four-for-five; I still think Francoeur sold a trap) and turn an unassisted triple play to end the game (after making two errors to start the inning).
No one would have believed he'd be the one to score the run that won the World Series last year, either, but he did.
That man has insane luck. (And so does Brad Lidge, who gets the save despite none of the outs technically being attributed to him.)
...Watch a ballgame, see something new every time.
